Prep and assemble
- Grease the inside of a dutch oven so the cobbler releases easily after baking.
- Toss the sliced peaches with sugar and cinnamon, then spread evenly in the bottom of the dutch oven.
- Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the peaches without stirring.
- Dot the top with pats of butter and sprinkle with brown sugar.
Campfire bake
- Cover the dutch oven with its lid and place it over campfire coals with a few coals on top for even heat.
- Cook for 35-40 minutes, checking occasionally, until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let cool slightly before serving warm so the filling thickens.
Notes
For even browning, rotate the dutch oven occasionally over the coals during the 35-40 minute bake. Fridge: store covered up to 3 days and rewarm until hot. Freezer: freeze in portions up to 2 months; thaw overnight in the fridge. Dietary swap: use a gluten-free yellow cake mix for a gluten-free version.
