Method
Mix the dry ingredients
- Whisk all-purpose flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, and cinnamon together until evenly combined, making a dry mixture with no visible lumps.
Coat the apples
- Stir in the diced apples until they’re coated in the dry mixture and no dry pockets remain on the fruit.
Build a thick batter
- Whisk milk, large egg, and melted butter together, then fold into the flour-apple mixture until you get a thick batter that holds its shape.
Air-fry in batches
- Preheat the air fryer to 350°F and grease the basket, then drop spoonfuls of batter into the basket with spacing so they can crisp on all sides.
Cook until golden and cooked through
- Air fry at 350°F for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway, until the fritters are golden brown and cooked through.
Glaze and serve
- Whisk powdered sugar with milk until smooth, then drizzle over the warm fritters for a glossy finish.
Notes
For the crispiest edges, don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket—cook in batches if needed so each fritter has airflow around it. Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 2 days; reheat in the air fryer at 325°F for 2-3 minutes to re-crisp. Freezing is not recommended because the apple texture softens after thawing. For a gluten-free option, use a 1:1 gluten-free all-purpose flour blend in place of the all-purpose flour.
